Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) has started roadwork on the New England Highway at Rutherford.
Member for Maitland Robyn Parker said this project involves rebuilding a 1.45 kilometre section of the New England Highway from about 400 metres west of Kyle Street to about 100 metres west of River Road.
"The NSW Government has provided $740,000 this financial year to carry out this work opposite the airport," Ms Parker said.
"Most of the work will be completed at night to minimise potential disruptions to motorists.
"Work will be carried out on weekdays and Sundays between 7.30pm and 4.30am the next morning, weather permitting. One lane will remain open for traffic, with traffic control in place at all times.
"This project will improve road safety and provide a smoother road surface for all motorists, resulting in reduced ongoing maintenance costs.
"Work is expected to be completed this month, weather permitting.
"There will be no change to access to the airport or private residences during the work,"
Ms Parker said.
Motorists may experience minor delays while work is carried out and every effort will be made to minimise noise.
RMS thanks motorists for their patience while this important work is being carried out.
