I lead for the Opposition in the take-note debate on the report by General Purpose Standing Committee No. 2 entitled "Governance of NSW universities". Although the committee's inquiry was relatively small, its progress was keenly observed by a great number of interested parties throughout Australia and overseas, particularly academics.

I speak briefly in debate on the report of the Legislation Review Committee and commend the Hon. Amanda Fazio for her comments. Members should not underestimate the vital function performed by the Legislation Review Committee. There is broad capacity for that committee's recommendations to be even stronger.

I draw to the attention of the House some serious housing and planning issues in Maitland that have caused enormous concern for local residents and highlighted the need for thorough community consultation about local developments.

This motion calls for information that the public has a right and a need to know regarding the management of this project by the Government and the fees that are being charged.
